What is the difference between injection-moulded and extruded synthetic closures?

Injection Moulded

  • Individually moulded to ensure consistency.
  • Closure is formed in one process.
  • Incorporates a chamfer for easy insertion/re-insertion.
  • The ends are sealed for ultimate wine protection.

Extruded

  • Requires up to 3 stages of manufacture – extrusion, cutting and chamfering.
  • Non-chamfered product is difficult to re-insert into the bottle and can cause ‘lipping’ during bottling.
  • Chamfering is an optional and additional process that adds cost and may create concerns with dust.
  • Open foam structure is in contact with the wine.
